He did not reincarnate as the hero. He woke up as the main villain of a romantasy novel, the guy whose entire job is to be powerful, miserable, and conveniently dead by the final arc so the hero can get the girl. Fortunately for him, he has read this book and knows every bad decision he is supposed to make. Instead of acting like an emotionally stunted tyrant, he starts fixing things he was meant to ruin. He helps when he should not, shows up when the hero is supposed to, and somehow ends up alone with the heroine having conversations that were never in the script. She laughs, she looks at him differently, and the story starts acting weird. Now the hero is losing his "chosen one" aura, the romance flags are pointing in the villain's direction, and fate seems personally offended by his existence. If he is already the villain, he might as well steal the plot, rewrite the ending, and fall in love while he is at it. The transmigrated villain who was supposed to die discovers that the best revenge against a bad author is stealing all the heroines.
