He was born in darkness and lived his life within it. When the choice came, he willingly stepped into the light -- whether it was desire or a whim, he cannot remember. He never had a name, though he yearned for one, and the emotions he once could not understand have become painfully real. Now human, he finds himself wondering whether discarding so much of himself was worth it. Emotions that were once like flavors of ice cream have become conflicting and contradictory. Why does he feel sad, excited, and at peace while looking at the rain? Why are his feelings so torn over the simplest things? The raven who became human cannot go back. He must walk forward without hesitation and regret, hoping the emptiness will fade with time. To his past self, he has achieved the goal that was sought. Whether he has made that self proud is the question that haunts every step of his new existence. The creature who chose humanity discovers that being human means living with contradictions that no amount of preparation can resolve.
