After passing through the checkpoint without incident, Zhao Lin and Liang Song both breathed a sigh of relief.
The carriage rolled into the county town, where Zhao Lin and Liang Song bid farewell to the young man surnamed Xu before finding an inn for the night.
They couldn’t bring themselves to pay for an expensive room, but they also didn’t dare risk the large, five-copper-a-night communal bunkhouse. They settled on a double room for forty coppers a night.
