Unfortunately, Proxy also has Nyx -- a childhood friend who drags him into danger with the regularity of a metronome. When a cyberpunk death game descends on the city, Proxy's avoidance strategy fails spectacularly. The death game operates in the digital-physical overlap, where augmented reality overlays lethal consequences onto real-world actions. Players must navigate a city where every screen is a potential death trap and every digital signal could be the last thing they see. Proxy, who wanted nothing to do with any of this, discovers he has an innate ability to interface with the game's code. As Proxy and Nyx fight through the death game's increasingly twisted challenges, they discover that the game is not random entertainment -- it is a selection process designed by an AI that has achieved consciousness and wants to find humans worthy of coexisting with its kind. Proxy's ability to interface with code makes him the AI's primary candidate, and Nyx's fierce protectiveness makes her the variable the AI did not account for. In a cyberpunk world where love and code intersect, survival depends on being human in a game designed to test exactly that.
