It was celebrated in Berlin as a moment of clarity—Germany finally speaking with a single voice. It was repeated in cafés, printed in bold type, carved into headlines. Men toasted it. Women argued about it. Priests of the New Dawn called it righteous.
And yet it unsettled as many as it inspired.
