When Wilhelm II announced he would personally inspect the eastern formations, a delegation of senior generals followed—some curious, some wary, some already irritated by what they expected to see. As commander of the 8th Army, Oskar prepared to accompany his father, and he did so with a pride he did not bother to hide.
