Chapter 7: The Will
The funeral took place next day in the morning. Feng Xinying stood there quietly and carried out all the rituals. She held her father’s hand for one last time before he left her to become one with nature. She became an orphan at twenty-three. All she had now was a stepmother whom she hated to the core.
After the funeral service they returned home in different cars. She didn’t eat anything and straightaway went to her room. She realized that her room was kept just the way she had left. Not a single thing was out of place. The only stuff missing were the pictures of her parents. She opened her suitcase to dig out the pictures. She caressed both of the frames and gently placed them on the bedside table. Her heart was feeling heavy. She wanted to wail like she did that night just before leaving but she had now matured a lot. She contained herself and curled inside her blanket. Jetlagged, Feng Xinying slept again. She woke up with a startle when she heard someone knocking at her door loudly.
