America gazed at the lake, her ghostly eyes perfectly still. She thought about what she had experienced in the months leading up to her death, the choices she had made and the consequences of those choices.
She wondered if Diana's life would have been saved if she had acted sooner, if her own life would have been kept if she ignored Humphrey the first time he was brought to her.
America thought about her unfinished research and the papers that she had left behind, her life's work. It was all she had to show for her life, her parents were long dead, she was unmarried and had no children.
