Ellen hummed softly as she stood in the kitchen, the smell of fresh coffee and pancakes filling the air. She set the last plate of pancakes on the table, pleased with how everything had turned out. Breakfast was ready, and she was looking forward to a quiet, peaceful morning with Mason. She wiped her hands on a towel, glancing toward the clock. It was still early.
Just as she reached for her coffee mug, the doorbell rang, startling her. She frowned, setting the mug back down. Who could be visiting this early? Her first thought was Philip who occasionally dropped by unannounced, but something about the timing felt off.
