Two large mansions with black roof tiles, white walls, and vermilion gates stood pressed together. They were so similar in design, identical down to the upturned eaves of their roofs and the chipped paint on the dragon-headed door knockers, that it seemed a massive mirror had been placed along their junction, creating a perfect, one-to-one reflection.

The players, led by the Scholar, walked up to the mansion closer to the west side of town. Before they could even knock, the two heavy vermilion gates slowly swung inward.

With a creak like a drawn bowstring, the Scholar waited by the door, showing no intention of entering. The players stepped over the threshold one by one and stopped in the courtyard paved with bluestone slabs.
