On the morning of April 6th, Qi Si finally ventured out.
A white fog perpetually shrouded the village's main road. Through the haze, withered wheat fields and crooked black shapes loomed, indistinct enough that, from a distance, it was impossible to tell scarecrows from human corpses.
The skins of the dead, saturated by the damp mist, fermented into a stench like rotting cloth. The odor clung to the floating water droplets, spreading throughout the entire village with the shifting haze.
