Chapter 14: What the Sea Taught Me
The sea on the way home felt different.
Not physically — the same water, the same winds, the same broad-beamed trading vessel moving north through the same islands and headlands. But the direction had changed and direction changed everything. Outward voyages had the quality of approach — tension building, variables accumulating, the destination growing larger in the mind. Return voyages had a different quality. Settling. The mind beginning to process what the body had been too busy to fully absorb.
