Amelia woke up to the strong smell of hospital disinfectant and different blends of perfume, invading her nostrils. She tried to swallow her saliva, but it felt like a sharp needle piercing the walls of her throat.
The room felt silent apart from her heavy breathing and the beeping sound of different medical devices taped to her body. It was an indication that she was in the hospital and she was still alive.
"But what happened? How and when did I get to the hospital? Did I pass out?" Amelia ransacked her memory as she tried to slowly open her eyes. The bright overhead lights assaulted her eyes, making her squint.
